The Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR, also known as Transnistria) is an unrecognized state on the border of Moldova and Ukraine. All UN nations, including Russia, formally consider Transnistrian territory to be part of Moldova. Russia does maintain a consulate in Transnistria, as well as an ongoing military presence. Moldova has repeatedly asked for the removal of Russian troops, including as recently as September 2021.
