Beyond Meat, Inc. is a Los Angeles–based producer of plant-based meat substitutes founded in 2009. The company's initial products were launched in the United States in 2012. The company offers plant-based options in the beef, pork, and poultry categories. As of March 2021, Beyond Meat products were available in approximately 118,000 retail and foodservice outlets in over 80 countries worldwide.

The company went public in May 2019 to much fanfare, becoming the first vegan meat alternative company to trade on the US stock market, and achieved a market capitalization of $14.14 billion in July 2019.

However, since that time, the company's stock price has imploded, declining more than 80%, leaving the company with a market cap of $2.16 billion. In August 2022, Reuters reported:

Beyond Meat Inc is headed for an unappetizing second quarter as the plant-based food craze withers in the face of several weak product tests at restaurants and mediocre reviews.

This decline in the company's fortunes has led some to speculate that the company will go bankrupt if it does not cut costs:

“Beyond Meat must dramatically cut costs and lower its cash burn, or it will go bankrupt,” wrote New Constructs CEO David Trainer, in a note released on Tuesday. “Companies with heavy cash burn and little cash on hand are risky in any market, but especially now.”

On August 3 2022, Bloomberg reported that the company had announced a round of layoffs:

Plant-based meat maker Beyond Meat Inc. eliminated about 40 positions as part of a broader cost-cutting plan, Chief Executive Officer Ethan Brown told employees in an internal memo.
