Milei has promised to fully dollarize the economy and get rid of the Argentinean peso which means the US dollar (USD) would be the only state-recognized form of exchange in Argentina. De facto dollarization, where citizens partially or primarily conduct their business in USD is arguably already the status quo in Argentina.
This move is controversial among economists with some in support due to what they see as irresponsible monetary policy by Argentina's central bank. It is opposed by others who note the logistical issues with dollarizing and monetary sovereignty concerns.
