There is historical precedent in widows of opposition figures rising to become leaders of their countries, such as Corazon Aquino of the Philippines or Violeta Chamorro of Nicaragua. On February 19, 2024, following the assassination of her husband Alexei Navalny, Yulia Navalnaya released a Youtube video in which she said, “I will continue the work of Alexei Navalny. I will continue to fight for our country.”
