US mega-cap stocks Apple, Microsoft, Alphabet (parent of Google), Amazon, Nvidia, Meta Platforms (Facebook), and Tesla are collectively known as the Magnificent Seven. At the time of writing, they are collectively worth $13.1 trillion, and their performance has driven most of the gains in the S&P 500 over 2023.
The Magnificent Seven's rise has left the S&P more concentrated than at any time in the last 100 years and prompted fears of a bubble.
On the other hand, it is possible that recent advances in artificial intelligence will generate so much profit that the Magnificent Seven's current share prices are fully justified by future cash flow.
