James David Vance, commonly known as J.D. Vance, born August 2, 1984, is an American politician of the Republican Party serving as the junior United States senator from Ohio since 2023, and was adopted as the Republican nominee for Vice President of the United States on July 15, 2024 after being selected as former President Donald J. Trump's running mate in his bid for a non-consecutive second term in the 2024 presidential election, in which Trump may face a rematch against the Democratic Party ticket of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.

If elected vice president and sworn into office, Vance would be the youngest person (at 40 years old) to hold that office since Richard Nixon in 1953 (also 40).

Prior to entering politics, Vance had been a United States Marine, a corporate lawyer, a venture capitalist closely associated with the billionaire Peter Thiel, and a best-selling author.
